Greg starts off this podcast by mentioning the Emmys, and talking about his past weekend of working and travelling. He then starts up the interview with World Champion Judah Friedlander, from 30 Rock. They talk about American Splendor, what being a nerd really means, tell stories about the worst managers ever, and explain how crappy some publishers can be. Greg also plays fan favorite games Overheard, Malebag, How I Listen, and Obsolete.

Transit was not spending aduaeqte attention to lower cost alternatives to the projects it punts up. That needs attention.2. Fair point, none of the Parliamentary parties have.3. What the hell is an average trucking firm? There are roughly 80,000 trucks in NZ excluding trailers, the majority are owner operator, but many are in fleets. It depends on the weight and distance of the truck involved, and these vary as much as RUC rates (which are very complicated).4. Government doesn't control the market price of diesel, but it does control RUC and it lied to the RTF about it.If you think how the government spends transport funds is pretty much ok then you pretty much have to support the increase, but don't have to support the lie. If you think the government spends transport funds wastefully or suboptimally, then the question of a RUC increase needs to be seen more broadly.and of course the government has also just allowed regional councils to start imposing a new fuel tax of up to 10c/l on petrol or diesel

BB: I agree - incomprehensible tacctis on the govt's part once again. That doesn't translate into an argument for trucker protests though. Also, thanks for upping my rating - but I don't expect to get rated highly on this blog...Ed Snack: yes, I can find the figures if I go looking for them. What I'm wondering is why Tony Friedlander hasn't been reeling them off every time he's on the news. Doesn't think they'll help his case any?Clunking Fist: er yeah, sure - if I disagree with you it must be because I'm jealous. And yes, there can be heaps wrong with the formula for RUC. What relevance does that have for the argument at hand? Did RUC suddenly become complicated, time-consuming and expensive just this week? I thought this was about the timing of an increase, not about general problems with RUC.Bok: Re number 1, read it again. It's not addressed to truck drivers, who've been fairly clear about what their issue with King is. It's addressed to supporters of this protest action, as found in great numbers on this blog, who've been talking it up as a "taxpayer revolt," a "consumer revolt," even a response to Labour's "crimes against the spirit." If they think it's a taxpayer revolt and support that concept, it's entirely reasonable to ask them how they imagine roads getting paid for. Re the rest, you're not making much sense there. Especially not with this last bit: You are not the only person with a right to a voice. Indeed I'm not. In fact, you may not have noticed, but I'm seriously outnumbered on this blog, we've been running stories in support of the protest all week, and my voice is all but lost in the howling of the right-wing mob here. On this thread alone I'm accused of being a conspiracy theorist, ignorant of business, dense, jealous, encouraging disdain for the ordinary person, dumb, a fool, selfish and a prat. Shit, it must be awful having me suppressing your freedom of expression like that... http://peknquo.com hrjsoe [link=http://aasihttwoi.com]aasihttwoi[/link]

a 1000 times so one more for luck) Truckies work on low margins but they make a linvig. They negotiate contracts for up to 6 months ahead, but can react to increases up to a month ahead. All they wanted was to be told so they could pass on the costs. Now they are actually subsidizing us for a months. Not one of them has said they dont want to pay, they wanted to know in advance.2. This is right at the bottom of the barrel in fuckwittery. Read answer 1, and stop making up bullshit to fit your narrow arguments.3. Again it is not the cost fool! it is the timing. read 1 and then 2.4. Now you are just totally being dumb. But even after 17 posters tried to explain , i'll foolishly try again.Johnny builds a house to sell. The brick will cost him $20The labour will cost $20Other cost like compliance etc comes to $20.He will sell the house for $100 and after tax he takes home $30 for his endeavors. No one give a flying fuck whether the compliance is 5% 10% or 70% Johnny makes his $30 and the other guy has a house. So piss off with the argument 4. But remember what has happened here is that the government has come along after johnny sold the house and said oh by the way the compliance is now $60. 5. What a pathetic point this is. I should not even give it credibility by addressing it, but what the hey, I have gone this far. Most truckies are owner drivers. But let's play you nasty little game the other way. How many teachers strikes that inconvenience me, have been because teachers have been bullied by their union into striking? How many flights I have missed because of baggage handler strikes have been because if they did not strike they would have been called scabs? Nasty hey. And I am sure not true But it is what you are suggesting.Last of all stop being such a selfish little prat. You are not the only person with a right to a voice. point is, the bible is one of the most ridiculous books ever witetrn. no one can agree either on it's origins nor it's meaning. last but not least Matthew 18:8-9 (Mark 9:43-47) And if your hand or your foot causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away; it is better for you to enter life maimed or lame than with two hands or two feet to be thrown into the eternal fire. And if your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out and throw it away; it is better for you to enter life with one eye than with two eyes to be thrown into the hell of fire. off with the tallywhackers boys.
